The Free Label is a Toronto-based disco and R&B band formed in 2017, made up of six multi-instrumentalists and vocalists including lead singer Josh Tsakas, known for their high-energy performances and a sound that blends 1970s disco, 1990s R&B, funk, and modern pop influences. Since forming in 2017, the group has steadily built a reputation in Canada’s live music scene through extensive touring and festival appearances, showcasing tight musicianship and a strong focus on groove-driven, audience-engaging shows. Their recorded output began gaining momentum with early singles like “All Night” (2020) and continued through 2021 and 2022 with tracks such as “Reckless” and “Boys Don’t Sob,” which helped define their retro-inspired yet contemporary style. In 2024, they released Songs for Sienna, a project that expanded their disco and soul influences while refining their polished, live-band aesthetic. They also followed with new material including the 2024 single “Change Your Mind,” further strengthening their growing international presence and reinforcing their identity as one of Canada’s most dynamic modern funk and disco collectives.
