Piner is the musical project of singer-songwriter Claya Way Brackenbury, based in Kingston (Katarokwi), Ontario, known for blending confessional songwriting with gritty indie folk-rock arrangements and emotionally reflective storytelling. Emerging in the early 2020s, Piner quickly developed a reputation for music that centers empathy and perspective, often “stepping into the stories of others” to explore human experience through a deeply personal yet universal lens. In 2023, Piner released the album A Netherworld, a defining project that combined atmospheric instrumentation with themes of hope, resilience, and social reflection, featuring songs such as “The Wanderer,” “Chicory,” and “Cold Moon.” The project continued to evolve through live recordings and acoustic sessions, including performances like “By & By (Live at the Dakota Tavern),” which highlighted a raw and intimate side of the music. By 2025, Piner had begun touring new material, refining a sound that balances tender melodies with textured, guitar-driven indie rock influences. Known for introspective lyricism and a strong emotional core, Piner continues to build a growing presence within Canada’s indie and folk music scene.
